# Yankees Preview: Schlittler vs. Skubal match up in a pitchers' duel

THE BRONX, NY --- The Yankees lost the first game to the Tigers, and it was not pretty. Tonight is going to be a pitching matchup we are all looking forward to.

The Yankees are turning to AL [Cy Young](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/y/youngcy01.shtml?utm%5Fmedium=linker&utm%5Fsource=citylimitspod.com&utm%5Fcampaign=2026-06-30%5Fbr) lead contender [Cam Schlittler](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/schlica01.shtml?utm%5Fmedium=linker&utm%5Fsource=citylimitspod.com&utm%5Fcampaign=2026-06-30%5Fbr) to end the team's five-game skid, and he will be against reigning Cy Young winner [Tarik Skubal](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/skubata01.shtml?utm%5Fmedium=linker&utm%5Fsource=citylimitspod.com&utm%5Fcampaign=2026-06-30%5Fbr).

After last night's game, the Yankees optioned Yerry De Los Santos to AAA Scranton and recalled RHP [Yovanny Cruz](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cruzyo01.shtml?utm%5Fmedium=linker&utm%5Fsource=citylimitspod.com&utm%5Fcampaign=2026-06-30%5Fbr) ahead of tonight's game. With the Yankees needing to use seven relievers last night, the Yankees made the call to get a fresh arm.

Schlittler's last start against Boston was the beginning of the slide; now he needs to end it for the Yankees, and it truly begins with his outing.
