THE BRONX, NY --- The Yankees lost the first game to the Tigers, and it was not pretty. Tonight is going to be a pitching matchup we are all looking forward to.

The Yankees are turning to AL Cy Young lead contender Cam Schlittler to end the team's five-game skid, and he will be against reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal.

After last night's game, the Yankees optioned Yerry De Los Santos to AAA Scranton and recalled RHP Yovanny Cruz ahead of tonight's game. With the Yankees needing to use seven relievers last night, the Yankees made the call to get a fresh arm.

First pitch Monday will be at 7:05pm on Amazon Prime Video or TBS.

Here is how the Yankees will line up today:

  1. P. Goldschmidt 1B
  2. A. Rosario 3B
  3. B. Rice DH
  4. J. Domínguez RF
  5. A. Volpe SS
  6. J. Caballero 2B
  7. S. Jones CF

The Yankees are giving Cody Bellinger a day off in the midst of his recent offensive slide. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is also getting the night off after crashing into Jasson Dominguez last night. The Yankees are going with a stronger defensive outfield but Amed Rosario at third base.

  3. K. Carpenter RF
  4. R. Greene LF

Pitching Matchup

Yankees RHP Cam Schlittler (8-4, 1.62)

The Yankees are turning to Schlittler to get them off this skid. Schlittler has been dominant this season, but tonight he will need to give length and go toe-to-toe with Skubal on the other side. Schlittler's last start against Boston was the beginning of the slide; now he needs to end it for the Yankees, and it truly begins with his outing.

Tigers LHP Tarik Skubal (3-4, 3.32)

The Yankees are facing a tough cookie tonight in Skubal. He carved the Yankees up last week in Detroit but did give up three home runs and four runs overall. Paul Goldschmidt has owned him in his career, which is a good thing for the Yankees who need an offensive spark.
