Yankees Reactions: Yanks lose series, three straight, as offense continues to struggle
New York scored one run for the second game in a row.
TORONTO — Instant reactions to the Yankees (68-55) 4-1 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays (61-64). It is their third straight loss for the first time since the beginning of July.
Cam Schlittler's Start
The Yankees had who they wanted on the mound to stop their skid. The issue is Yankees starters as of late have needed to be almost perfect. Cam Schlittler struggled with his command on the day but gave up only one run in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out seven while walking three batters. His pitch count got high early, but he had some quick innings to get the pitch count back down a bit to give the Yankees some length.
The Yankees Offense
One run on four hits in nine innings. The lone run was in the second inning. That should some up the Yankees offensive performance as it once again dissapointed.
The Yankees made good contact, but right now, it's not enough. The swing selection is bad. The at-bats in general are bad. The team can't put together a rally. The Yankees offense has scored a combined two runs over their past three games. It's unfathomable how bad things have gotten for their offense.
Bullpen Management
Aaron Boone has dodged a lot of blame because most of the losses are due to lack of offense. He's not the one taking the at-bats. But his bullpen moves today should be called into question. Brent Headrick came in to get out of a jam created by Schlittler in the sixth inning, which he did. He started the seventh inning, which was a questionable choice, and struggled giving up the go-ahead run and earning the loss.
Later in the game, Boone went to Tim Hill with a one-run deficit. Hill went on to load the bases with no outs and give up two more runs. Why not Fernando Cruz in that spot?
